These are the terms you agree to when you buy from asaliyabooks.lk. We have written them in plain language, because terms nobody can read protect nobody.
By using this website or placing an order with us, you agree to what follows. If you do not agree, please do not order.
We sell books to customers in Sri Lanka, and everything on this site is priced in Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR).
Not yet published: the registered business name, registration number and registered address belong here. Until the shop supplies them we would rather show a visible gap than state something we have not confirmed.
When you place an order you are offering to buy. The order is accepted when we confirm it and start preparing your parcel — the email you get immediately is a record of your order, not yet our acceptance of it.
We may decline or cancel an order if a book has sold out, if a price or description on the site was wrong, or if we cannot deliver to the address given. If you have already paid, we refund you in full.
Stock is checked as you order, but two people can reach the last copy at the same moment. If that happens we will contact you and sort it out, rather than quietly ship nothing.
We will never ask you for your card number, your online banking password, or a one-time code from your bank. If anyone claiming to be us asks for any of those, it is not us — please tell us about it.
We deliver across Sri Lanka. Delivery costs LKR 400 within the Colombo district and LKR 400 to other districts.
Orders are normally dispatched within one working day, and typically arrive in two to three days in Colombo and four to seven days elsewhere. Those are the courier's usual timescales rather than a guarantee: weather, strikes and public holidays are outside our control.
Somebody needs to be there to receive the parcel. If the courier cannot deliver and the parcel comes back to us, we will contact you to arrange another attempt.
You may return a book within 7 days of delivery if it is in the condition it arrived in — unread, unmarked, and with any wrapping intact.
A damaged, faulty or wrong book is our problem, not yours. Tell us and we will replace it or refund you, and we will cover the cost of sending it back.
To start a return, contact us with your order number. Refunds go back the way you paid, or by bank transfer if you paid cash on delivery.
Return postage on a change of mind is yours; return postage on our mistake is ours.
Ordinary use needs no rules. These are the few things we ask you not to do:
The design, wording and layout of this site are ours. Book covers, titles, descriptions and author names belong to their publishers and authors, and appear here so that you can decide what to buy.
We are responsible for delivering the books you ordered, in good condition, and for putting it right when we fail. As far as the law allows, our responsibility for anything connected with an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under Sri Lankan consumer law. Where these terms and that law disagree, the law wins.
These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Sri Lanka have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them.
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it, so a later change can never alter an order you have already made.
